What managed means
We install and configure it
We configure the modem and your network equipment to suit your office, and connect your computers and laptops to it. The NBN modem comes with the service.
We move you across gently
We migrate you from your previous connection rather than leaving you to cut over on your own, and we test scan to email afterwards.
We take the ticket
An internet fault goes into our helpdesk queue, the same one as the IT and phone tickets, and the same technicians work it.
We lodge and chase faults
A line fault is fixed by the carrier and NBN Co. We lodge it with our wholesale carrier, keep the reference, and chase it, and you get ticket updates as it moves.
The technologies, and what each needs
The NBN reaches your building in one of a few ways, and which one decides the speeds on offer and what the installation involves. You do not need to know which you have; we look it up before we quote.
FTTP, fibre to the premises
Fibre runs into the building and ends at an NBN connection box, and the higher tiers are available at these addresses.
HFC, over the cable network
The connection comes in over the cable network, and a modem is supplied with the service.
FTTN, FTTB and FTTC, the last stretch over a phone line
The last stretch runs over a phone line, so the address needs an active phone number for the connection, or NBN Co may charge for a new installation. We check this when we check what your address can get, and we tell you if it could move to fibre instead.
Speed tiers and data
We sell the speed tiers NBN Co offers, at the tiers your address supports, and we quote the tier that suits the site. Whether a tier is available at an address, and what it delivers, depends on the technology at that address, so we confirm it before a quote rather than on this page.
Data can be unlimited or capped. A capped allowance suits a site with little traffic; the quote says which you are getting.
A static IP address is available as an extra on a managed connection, for the businesses that need one for a VPN, a camera system or a server that others reach.
What is not included, said up front
- Internal cabling in multi-storey buildings, from the communications room to your office, is a licensed electrician's job and charged separately.
- Network hardware beyond the modem. A switch, a wireless access point or a 4G router are sold separately, set out in the quote.
- The NBN Co fee for a new installation, where it applies to your address, is its own line on the quote, shown before you sign.
- Moving your phone system. That is a separate line, because it is a separate job. See phones and internet together.
Adding 4G failover
4G failover is an add-on we quote often: a 4G router at your site that takes over when the NBN drops, so the office can keep working while the line fault is fixed. It is not standard, and it is not for every site, so we quote it where it makes sense.
If you need more than the NBN
An office that needs the same speed both ways, on a line of its own, is an Enterprise Ethernet conversation.
